The ONIX International Standard

Simplifying online communication in the publishing industry

The ONline Information eXchange standard for books, which is published and maintained by EDItEUR, is an international standard for representing and communicating book industry product information in electronic form. It is an XML schema, meaning that ONIX data is presented as a structured text document (much as this web page is). Increasingly, ONIX is being used to exchange information between publishers, distributors, and their trading partners.

As you grow your business, you'll need to be able to communicate with a variety of different organizations. ONIX allows these organizations to have a common language for communicating with each other, so that partners can easily keep each other up to date. Having the ability to generate ONIX documents from your title information will therefore allow you to manage your business more efficiently and ensure that you're not losing sales because of a breakdown in communications.
